Handwriting practice for children who are just learning to write.

Print, cursive and numbers, traced with a finger or an Apple Pencil on four ruled lines. Built for one five-year-old and her younger brother, and then built properly.

What it does

Where the letters come from

The cursive is Hershey Script, a stroke font drawn by Dr A. V. Hershey at the U.S. National Bureau of Standards in the 1960s. It is not an outline font. Each letter in it is a pen path — open, ordered, with a start and an end — which is exactly what a child needs to follow and what an ordinary font cannot give.

So nothing in the alphabet is traced from a picture or guessed at. The line a child follows is the line Hershey drew, measured and placed on this app's ruling.

Privacy, in one sentence

Letterling collects nothing. It has no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no advertising, and it never opens a network connection. A child's name and progress are stored on that device and nowhere else.
